Katy Hutson
I’m Katy Bowser Hutson, 48 years old. I sing, write songs, and write books. I’ve been involved with Rain for Roots, Indelible Grace, and Coal Train Railroad. I’ve written Little Prayers for Ordinary Days and Now I Lay Me Down to Fight, and I’m currently in the middle of writing a book about play and the playfulness of God. I’ve been using words and music to tell stories and make meaning for as long as I can remember. I often switch back and forth between the two, but I especially love when words have music to them and when I make music, the words usually come first. I could listen to John Mark McGaha sing all day long, and I have secret aspirations of writing a musical with him. I have a prayer labyrinth in my backyard, though I let it go for a year; I just weed-whacked it back into existence. The spiritual metaphors abound.
